Places to visit in Greece
Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki is located in the north and can compete with Athens, the Greek capital. It features several lovely, expensive restaurants, vibrant nightlife, and a distinctive cultural environment.
Crete
If you aren't planning on visiting many of Greece's islands, simply remain in Crete and enjoy complete authenticity and all the trappings of a classic Greek island. It is known for its beautiful beaches, secluded locations, and welcoming residents. Crete, in fact, doesn't feel like an island because it encompasses so much territory. It is cosmopolitan, especially if you visit its cities or the cosmopolitan north shore, yet it is not without its history. Crete has everything a Greek island should have, with isolated beaches and a lush hinterland.
Santorini
A sunset view on Santorini island makes a journey to Greece even more rewarding. Many visitors put it on their bucket list to see the sunset over the island's famous caldera. Tourists go to Oia for unforgettable photos, but the views of the sunset from Akrotiri, on Santorini's southwestern border, are equally as beautiful, if not more so. Not only that, but the sheer beauty of Santorini as you approach it from the sea is breathtaking. The stark cliffs towering out of the azure water, the fact that you're careening over a massive crater of a sunken volcano, and the fact that right in the distance lays the very island carved by an ancient volcanic eruption can make you question whether your imagination is running crazy. Santorini's main communities, Oia and Fira, sit atop the island, their Cycladic buildings along the cliff tops and sliding down like jagged ice cones over rock cliffs. Santorini may be extremely busy during peak season, so it's no surprise that the island is home to several fantastic vineyards and restaurants. If you're searching for privacy, go for it among the island's many ancient ruins, hiking paths, and, of course, under the ocean.
Mykonos
Mykonos, the Greek party capital, has a thriving party scene, magnificent beaches, and spectacular nightlife. Lose yourself in Mykonos Town, with its maze of winding, small alleyways that evoke the Cyclades. Mykonos, Greece's most fashionable island, is a sizzling blend of Ibiza and St Tropez known primarily for its party scene. During peak season, affluent, hedonistic holidaymakers flock to Hora or Mykonos Town, some sailing aboard cruise ships and yachts, posing for photographs, from fashion designers to models and other well-known figures who contribute to Hora's or Mykonos Town's party-hard reputation. But there's also the beauty to enjoy, with its whitewashed Cycladic buildings, elegant café bars and boutiques, and charming bistros and pubs. The island's popularity has resulted in a proliferation of posh hotels, resorts, beach restaurants, and pubs. Mykonos is also the starting point for a visit to the neighbouring archaeological site of Delos.
Rhodes
Rhodes' Old Town has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes Palace, the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, and the Archbishop's Palace are all located here, inviting travellers to explore their historical riches. Walking around the city's lovely alleyways is possibly the greatest way to see what it has to offer. Aside from that, travellers may always buy souvenirs and consume local cuisine to add to their collection of treasured memories.
