Umluj Old Emirate Palace

Umluj Old Emirate Palace

The old emirate palace, or historical castle, as it’s called, is located in the heart of Umluj City in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the oldest and most prominent palaces in the city. In the year 1304 AH, the Ottoman authority then issued an order to construct the palace. A unique kind of rectangular rock, measuring 30 meters in length and 25 meters in width, was used to construct the palace. The palace is one of Umluj's rare examples of an antique structure. There is only one gate from the southern side of the Palace to host guests and tourists under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the palace hosts many visitors interested in knowing the ancient heritage of the Kingdom.

Holiday packages to Umluj

Holiday packages to Umluj

Saudi Arabia has never been a particularly attractive tourist destination. There are tourists, of course. These are the 15 million people that come to the country each year for religious and personal reasons. Of course, this is a significant source of revenue for the Saudi government.

So far, no one has come on a package vacation or a tourist visa. That, however, is about to change. The kingdom has ambitious development ambitions, including a brand new Red Sea resort, the ‘Noem' Mega City, Al Qiddiyah, Riyadh's Entertainment City, and much more.

It's easy to see why this small seaside town and region are frequently referred to as Saudi Arabia's Maldives. Travelers can visit over 100 small islands north of town, which are noted for their egg-white sands and ancient swaying palms, as well as a soft technicolor world of nudibranchs, turtles, and dugongs that live in the aquarium-like waters.

The beach at Umluj is picture-perfect, but the primary draw is sailing to islands like Jabal Hassan or lounging on palm-fringed beaches like Ras Al Shaaban and Doqm. It's feasible to visit neighboring mango plantations or travel an hour inland to Harrat Lunayyir from town. Discover a strange black lava landscape with craters and cones that feels a world away from the coast's dunes and turquoise waves.

Activities in Umluj

Swimming at Umluj’s Beaches

Swimming at Umluj’s Beaches

Umluj is a great place to dive and snorkel because of its warm, clear seas and abundance of coral. It's also considerably less crowded than other popular Red Sea dive locations like Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh. Many of the fringing reefs can be found right off sandy beaches, such as those on the island of Jabal Hassan, where Romans are known to have gathered glass from the island's sandy plains. Green and Hawksbill turtles, dolphins, dugong sea cows, and more than 1,200 fish species live in the warm seas of Umluj, which have more than four times the amount of hard coral found in the Caribbean.

Island-Hop Around Umluj

Island-Hop Around Umluj

The classic Umluj activities in this archipelago of over 100 islands include those on or near the water, from dolphin-spotting and snorkeling to fishing or simply relaxing by the lovely seashore. Tip: The only way to see the islands is to book a tour with a licensed tour operator like Shamal, which provides a three-day Weekend in Umluj itinerary that includes a boat excursion to several of the islands. Day tours on larger boats and individual journeys with drivers in shaded smaller fishing boats are also available. There are plans to create eco-friendly resorts on several of the region's islands as part of the Red Sea Project, but for now, guests may enjoy this mainly unspoiled environment with few distractions.
